This is An Wang. He was a Chinese–American
computer engineer and inventor of many things,
and co-founder of Wang Laboratories,
which was well known for some of its inventions.
Wang contributed to the development
of magnetic core memory.
He was born in Shanghai, China. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1940.
He immigrated to the United States to attend Harvard University
, and he ended up earning a PhD in applied physics in 1948. After graduation, he worked at Harvard
on one of his creations, the design of the Mark IV, one of the first fully
electronic computers. Wang co-invented the pulse transfer controlling device,after , which was another great invention.
When Harvard began to put less effort into computer science, An Wang decided to
start his own business.
